Studio Capstone

Game Academy, Level Three

Game Academy is an award-winning, three-level game design and computer science program for high school students looking for college preparatory STEM opportunities.

In the 3rd course, Studio Capstone, you spend the year designing an original game within your own indie game studio. Each team member takes a unique role based on your interests: Creative Director, Programmer, Narrative Lead, Artist, etc. Studio teams playtest and present their games at local events within the game industry.

Details

Pre-requisites:

You must have successfully completed both the 2D and 3D Game Development courses.  

Note: If you have studied Unity previously, email gameacademy@urbanarts.org to see what level is right for you.

Schedule:

  • Full school year
  • 9 hours weekly
  • Start: Saturday, October 18
  • End: Early June TBD

Class Meetings:

Hybrid

  • Remote or in-person: Thursdays, 4-6:30pm
  • In-person: Saturdays, 10am-5pm

College Access:

Studio students are eligible to apply to receive college credit through CUNY’s College Now program.

Course Map

Unity & C# Coding

In weekly coding lessons, you will replicate, modify and create mini-games to learn the fundamentals of programming.

Art Forms

You will also learn one of four essential art forms weekly:

  1. Game design & theory
  2. Narrative & storytelling
  3. Pixel art & animation
  4. Music & Sound FX

Final Project

Your final project will be a game prototype, designed by you from scratch – including original art, music, narrative and code.
