Game Academy, Level Two

Curupira is a 3D game designed by Samson, Amanda, Jenny, Dylan, Diego and Ira.  

Game Academy is an award-winning, three-level game design and computer science program for high school students looking for college preparatory STEM opportunities.

In the 2nd course, 3D Game Development, you will upgrade your programming and art skills to code and design more advanced games with Unity3D & Blender. Your final 3D game prototype will be made in a team, as you being to specialize your role as a game designer.

Details

Pre-requisites:

You must have completed the 2D Game Development course.  

Note: If you have studied Unity previously, email gameacademy@urbanarts.org to see what level is right for you.

Schedule:

  • Full school year: Starting mid October through mid June
  • 6 hours/week
  • Choose to attend 2x after school weekly or all day Saturdays

Options:

In-Person Classes @ the Urban Arts Learning Lab:

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4-6:30pm
  • or Saturdays, 10am-5pm

Remote Class on Discord:

  • Wednesdays & Fridays, 4-6:30pm

What You Will Learn:

  • Advanced Unity3D and C# programming 
  • 3D Art & CAD with Blender
  • Version control with Github
  • Collaboration and project management within a team

At this level, you will be offered opportunities to explore college programs, find scholarships and prepare for the application process. Learn more about College Access support.

Course Map

Unity & C# Coding

In weekly coding lessons, you will replicate, modify and create mini-games to learn the fundamentals of programming.

Art Forms

You will also learn one of four essential art forms weekly:

  1. Game design & theory
  2. Narrative & storytelling
  3. Pixel art & animation
  4. Music & Sound FX

Final Project

Your final project will be a game prototype, designed by you from scratch – including original art, music, narrative and code.
