Welcome to our Parent ToolKit 🧰 9 TOP TIPS
The Achievery is a FREE online learning platform created by AT&T, which connects K-12 students to a new world of digital learning through stories that spark curiosity and content that entertains and educates.
It’s a big website with so much to explore, so we took the time to sift through all the best resources just for you. This checklist will guide you through getting started on the platform, from setting up an account to finding the perfect lessons for your child.
Create an Account on The Achievery
Sign up for a free account to access over 1,000 educational videos and lessons.
TIP Explore the platform’s interface to familiarize yourself with the categories and topics available. There are lessons in Digital Arts, Digital Literacy, ELA, Math, Science, SEL, and Engineering.
Explore Downloadable Lesson Plans
Look for lesson plans that align with your child’s school curriculum or areas of interest, such as sustainability, video games, or media literacy.
TIP Print or save lesson plans for easy access during study sessions.
Identify Learning Goals with Your Child
Discuss with your child what topics they are interested in or what areas they need extra help with.
TIP Grades are a great indicator, but take the time to talk with your child about their experiences in school and things they may enjoy about it.
Schedule Regular Learning Sessions
Dedicate up to 30 minutes a day to go through lessons together, reinforcing school learning.
TIP Use The Achievery’s engaging videos as a fun break from traditional homework.
Supplement School Learning
One best practice is to keep the lessons similar or on topic with what they will experience in school.
TIP You can think of the Achievery as a Warm-Up for what they will experience in class. Introducing students to the terms they will hear will help familiarize them.
Incorporate Interactive Activities
Use The Achievery’s interactive features, like quizzes or creative projects, to make learning more engaging.
TIP Turn these activities into a family or friends challenge to encourage participation. As an experienced educator, I still learn new things every time I log on the platform. Competition can “gamify” the experience.
Monitor and Discuss Progress
Review completed lessons and discuss what your child has learned.
TIPÂ Celebrate milestones to keep your child motivated and engaged. Printing certificates, or telling teachers about their success truly helps.
Recommend The Achievery to Teachers
Share the platform’s resources with your child’s teachers, highlighting how it can complement classroom learning.
TIP Suggest specific lessons or topics that align with the school curriculum, especially if you found them fun or thought provoking.
Stay Updated with New Content
Regularly check for new lessons and resources that are added to the platform.
TIP Set up email notifications or bookmark The Achievery for easy access to the latest content.
